Community Concerns Rise Over Police Response Times in Southwest Little Rock

Residents of Southwest Little Rock have recently voiced significant concerns regarding prolonged police response times in their neighborhoods. Members of the Arkansas Community Organizations (ACO) gathered outside the Little Rock Police Department headquarters to deliver a letter advocating for the reinstatement of community policing strategies.

During the assembly, community members shared personal experiences highlighting the challenges faced when seeking timely law enforcement assistance. They emphasized that areas such as Southwest and Central Little Rock, along with the John Barrow corridor, often experience extended waits or, in some instances, no response at all when emergency services are contacted.

One resident expressed the community’s frustration, stating, “Just call and call and call and call. Well, at what point do you stop calling when you don’t get an answer?” This sentiment underscores the growing concern over public safety and the perceived need for a more engaged and responsive police presence.

The ACO’s call for a return to community policing is rooted in the belief that neighborhood-based models can foster trust between law enforcement and residents, potentially leading to more effective crime prevention and resolution. Community policing emphasizes collaboration between police officers and community members to identify and address local safety concerns proactively.

As discussions continue, residents remain hopeful that their concerns will prompt actionable changes within the Little Rock Police Department, ultimately leading to improved response times and strengthened community relations.
